New Jr. Course Notes
JO Course Notes 2001-2004 October Update Version 1.50 reflects the changes of Update 5. These include various new required skills for Class 3 and 4, a new Developmental D rule for one pommel skills on the Pommel Horse, and a new spotting rule for vault, among other items. Please note that in spite of the text that describes the new developmental D skills on the Pommel Horse, the Bailie is STILL a developmental D.

Please Remember His Smile
Ricky Deci, a 13-year old member of the U.S. men's junior national gymnastic team died Thursday after collapsing at the U.S. Training Center in Colorado Springs. He hadn't fallen or had any trouble during the practice and there was nothing in his medical history that would have predicted his death, said Ron Galimore, program director of the U.S. men's team. Ricky was ranked 2nd in the United States in his division and was a member of the Champion's Gymnastic Team, coached by Hideo Mizogucghi, as well as being a force in Texas and Region III Gymnastics. A Memorial Service will be held in Sugarland, Texas on Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church at 431 Eldridge. A memorial will be established in his honor. Keep posted to this site for more information. All those throughout Region III and the country will feel this great loss.

The Ohio State Boy's Gymnastics Clinic was a huge success.We had 3 National Team members in DJ Bucher (QCG), Aaron Rakes (QCG), and Bryan Albani (WSG) attending the Clinic. Calendar Update
Check Ohio's calendar. The summer meeting will be at Ohio State on July 22nd at 4:00 P.M. Also the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic will be held February 22-23. This is the first year it will include Men's gymnastics. This event includes cheerleading, bodybuilding and men's and women's gymnastics.

Ohio had a great showing at USA's. Jamie Natalie and Raj Bvasar qualified to Olympic Trials. DJ Bucher places 2nd in 14-15 age group to qualify for the National Team. Aaron Rakes (8th), Ron Ferris (10th) and Eric Vansickle (9th) also had a great showing.

Brian was an Ohio gymnast for 8 years. This year he had an accident on his backyard trampoline and is now paralyzed from the shoulders down. To help defray medical costs a fund has been created.

Ohio Gymnasts at 1999 JO Nationals
Ohio qualified 3 gymnasts to the John Hancock USA Championships. In the JE 1 Matt Metzger (QCG) was 11th AA and Dick Huntwork (H.Valley) was 12th.
In the JE 2 Division DJ Bucher (QCG) was 5th AA. Additionally, Aaron Rakes (QCG) qualified to the Class 3 National Team by placing 12th AA.
Ohio had 5 Event finalist Dick Huntwork (5th Pbars), Marshall Erwin (QCG 2nd Rg), Matt Metzger (5th Rgs), DJ Bucher (3rd Pbars) and Aaron Rakes (5th Vt).

Regional Development Meet at Queen City Gymnastics
The Winterfest Meet at Queen City served as the Regional Team Development Meet. Eight JE1, JE2's and Class 3 qualified to All Around Finals.
Winning the All Around in JE 1 was Dick Huntwork (Hocking Valley), JE 2 DJ Bucher (Queen City) and Class 3 Aaron Rakes (Queen City).

Early College Signings
Dick Huntwork (Hocking Valley) signed an athletic scholarship with the Ohio State University. Marshall Erwin (Queen City) received an athletic scholarship to Stanford University.

1998 Regional FutureStars
Region V Future Stars was held at Bartlett Gymnastics on October 18. Matt Blackburn (Columbus Gymnastics), Brad Heater (Columbus Gymnastics) and Sam Moon (Queen City Gymnastics) qualified for the National Competition.
Regional Meeting Held
Qualifying scores for Regionals: Class 1(34.5), Class 2(34.0), Class 3(36.5), Class 4(40.0), Class 5(47.5).
The Regional Developmental meets were also selected: Queen City's Winterfest on Feb 20th & 21st and Greater Kalamazoo on March 6th & 7th.

State Meeting Held
There is a qualifying score of 44.00 for Class 6 to State Meet. 1998/1999 Meet Schedule is set with State Meet being March 27,28 at Hocking Valley. Steve Glenn and Mike Serra were nominated for Jerry Thome award. Check out the State Newsletter for more information.
Ohio Gymnasts at the John Hancock National Championships
Brad Kenna of Westside Gymnastics has qualified from the East Regional Meet for the USA Championships in the Sr. Division.
Dick Huntwork of Hocking Valley Gymnastics will be competing in the Jr Division. Dick qualified by placing 15th at JO Nationals
Also Mike Morgan, Jaimie Natalie, Michael Canales, and Daren Lynch all of Ohio State, have qualified in the Sr. Division.
